The Beholder Contracts (free at DTRPG/RPGNow) by David Whiteland/
DWK Games is not about the eye monsters, but more literal. It's a very interesting twist on the "person hires characters to retrieve object" trope. Apparently it was first published in the 1980s in a magazine (don't know which) but has been revised and re-laid out.
It's for 1e and makes some references to the diseases tables, but should work with most OSR games. Very much worth checking out.
It is from early White Dwarf, and it is considered one of the lesser known classics. It is a good sign it has been made available for download - and for free no less!
ReplyDeleteWhile David did write for White Dwarf, this one is from an obscure Irish magazine: Fantasy Chronicles #3, 1986. After a favourable review from tenfootpole, I persuaded the original author to let this one out into the wild once again (with some new material, no less). David has a brief page about the work here:

Thanks very much for the feature: I think it's a fun piece and I'm glad to see it spreading around 30+ years later.
Thanks for the info! I didn't know that.
DeleteI think this is a real great article post.Really looking forward
