New OSR Products at RPGNow/DTRPG — January 30th, 2018

Some new systems this week. Although a couple are just B/X re-done.

Adventures

Beneath the Fallen Tower -  S&W Light introductory adventurer $2.99 and 26 pages.

RPGPundit Presents #17: The Hunters -  adventure for Dark Albion. 13 pages, $2.99

Rules

BX Advanced -  1e, without the hard stuff. How this is different than AEC for Labyrinth Lord, I dunno.  $9.95 and 228 pages

B/X Essentials: Cleric and Magic-User Spells -  Another case of LL apparently not being good enough, so let's reinvent the wheel to cash in. $4.99 and 34 pages.

O,S,& R: Oubliettes, Sorcery, and Reavers -  The description is somewhat patronizing and the price tag is high so I'm not touching it with the proverbial 10' pole, but apparently it's a hybrid old and modern game. $13, 134 pages

Non Human Player Codes for Swords & Wizardry Light -  Because every time a rules lighter than thou game comes out, there has to be rush of add-on products to cash in on the stuff removed from the game that people actually use.  PWYW

Misc

Friday Freebie Enhanced Map 1-26-18 -  Neat dungeon level. Enhanced $1 version now includes zip of the raw maps

Hobbs & Friends of the OSR Issue 1 - "zine featuring an adventure. $4.95 and 32 pages.

  1. Hi Jeremy, thanks for mentioning the new B/X Essentials book. To address your misgivings about it:
    * Yes, Labyrinth Lord is, in my opinion, not perfect. For a start, it's not a true clone of B/X. It's close, but varies in many small details. My main issue with LL, though, is its usability as a reference at the table. The text is just very verbose and not that well organised. B/X Essentials is my attempt to address these issues (and indeed to improve upon the original B/X books).
    * The project isn't about "cashing in". (It would look very different, if it was.) It's a labour of love to produce the books that I want to use in my games. The complete text of the books is available for free (https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folders/0B__F-t5ELhsHdGpKWHYyVzJBYWs) and I'm paying old-school artists a lot of money to illustrate the PDF / print editions. My "profit" from the project is significantly in the negative, so far.

Happy to send you a PDF, if you'd like a closer look!
