New OSR Products at DTRPG — November 26th, 2020

This is the first Thanksgiving in years that I have not worked. Kinda strange.

Adventures

A Misplaced Prince -  Featuring "piranhakeets", which I think are from the Flintstones. $1

Dread Swamp of the Banshee - Maximum Mayhem Dungeon #7, this seems less gonzo and lower level than previous entries, for 1E/OSRIC levels 4 to 8. 48 pages, $10

SOS1 The Old School -  Looks like Starry Knight is back doing OSR adventures after flirting with 5e. This is for 1E/OSRIC levels 4 to 6, and he's keeping his usual high (but not Frog God insanely high) prices at $4.99 for 22 pages.

The Temple of Bathymrala - Another detailed hex crawl/site based adventure in the ongoing series from Third Kingdom Games. At this point I have to think that Todd Lebeck has taken over the title of Hex Crawl King from John Stater.  39 pages, $3.96

Rules

Aquilae: Bestiary of the Realm Volume 2 -  This is the second volume of all the Pathfinder monsters converted to OSR. The first and a bundle of the two volumes were available last time. 839 pages, $25

Elf OSR Class - Really for White Box. $1

OSR Social Status System - While I approve of Gary Gygax changing his mind about magical elfin chainmail, and raising level limits for demihumans (especially half-elves), I disagree his inclusion of social status in UA, However, I guess some people like it. 8 pages, $1

Misc

Engines & Empires Character Sheets -  For the excellent Steampunk-ish OSR game, Free

Friday Enhanced Map 11-20-20 - Connects to the previous 5 weeks maps for a super big level. $2

New OSR Products at DTRPG — November 12th, 2020

It's been a while, but I had a pretty good reason...I got COVID.  Working retail, it was pretty much inevitable (we had an outbreak at the store, about a dozen people), but I am glad I got it when I did. I was only really sick for a week, 4 days of being really sick, 3 days of sorta sick.

Also I had a hard drive crash (or die). I didn't lose any of my writing, but did lose all the maps and art I had collected. I'm not sure which is worse, having no backup or having a backup that you can't find (It was on a tiny USB stick).

Official

The Book of Regency -  I did not really like 2E, but I did like the Birthright setting, which let players rules countries. This was never released as a print product, but as a free one when the line was killed and includes more rules and such for rulers.  Amazingly the description on the page is shorter than the offensive content disclaimer...(and it's from the late 90s, so it can't be that offensive, can it?)

Wrath of the Immortals - For some reason, this is free. It's the revised Immortal rules for BECMI and contains a campaign adventure that kinda illustrates that the author didn't play by the BECMI rules. 234 pages.

Adventures

Hall of the Rainbow Mage -  Pretty sure this vaguely described adventure from Frog God was originally a 3e adventure from the latter days of Necromancer Games. 58 pages,  $12.50

Thief King's Vault -  $10 for a 20 page adventure might make you wonder just how the real thief king (Frog God) is...but I don't think this is a 3E conversion, at least.

The Beloved Underbelly - Low level adventure with artsy illustrations. $5, 24 pages.

The Grey Citadel -  This was one of my favorites from Necromancer back in the 3e era, now updated to S&W. Not really a sandbox, more a urban detective plot. 100 pages, $19

Rules

Aquilae: Bestiary of the Realm: The Bookshelf -  This is actually two books, apparently every monster published for Pathfinder (aka 3.75) converted to OSR format. I did this with my Found Folio, but only did about 200 monsters that I liked the most. So I'm impressed with this. 1660 pages and $50

(If Frog God had done this, it would have been almost a $1000)

Aqualie: Bestiary of the Realm Volume One - Just the first book of above. $25 and 839 pages

Necromancer Class -  From James Mishler comes this new class for LL (and B/X). Seems like it also branches out into demonology.  $1.25, 15 pages

Starship Construction Manual for S&S 2e (2020 Update) - Pretty much what the title says. $5 and 44 pages.

Misc

Friday Enhanced Map 11-06-20 - Part of a multi-page cavern. $2

Pit Zine Issue #1 - New zine. 41 pages, PWYW

New OSR Products at DTRPG — October 22nd, 2020

One of the things I like about fall is that there is always one more "Last Day of Summer" where you have nice warm temperatures and it's nice out. There will be a week or so of cold weather, than 1-2 days of nice warm weather.

Until there is no more and it's just cold weather.  But it's a nice way to ease into winter.

Tonight was (probably) the last day of Summer. 85 and even now, still 70 outside. But then it comes crashing down tomorrow when the front comes through.

Adventures & Settings

First Level Dungeons -  This seems to be a collection of 12 small dungeons in one product, including one written by Steve Kenson, who started off with Shadowrun fan material on GEnie back in the day, and turned pro.

$4.99 and not sure how many pages, but it's huge, almost 200 megabytes.

The Crypts of the Aimascurs - Another hex crawl/site based adventure from Third Kingdom Games. $3.95 and 29 pages

Rules

Octhorrorfest! -  Various new horror (sorta) themed stuff for Old School Adventures (B/X) including three new classes. 49 pages and $6  (and as an aside, why is the "company" name Appendix N Entertainment, when it's for B/X which had its own inspiration section, not Appendix N?

Misc

Dungeons in Blue - Just Geomorphs 31 32 and 33 - $3.49 each. I was never a fan of geomorphs, dungeons should make sense.

New OSR Products at DTRPG — October 15th, 2020

The odd thing about the "new" Blogger interface is that it's not obvious where text goes. The boxes for text are the same color as the rest of the page and there's like no border or anything. Every time I sit down to do this I am bewildered for a minute.

Adventures & Settings

In the Shadow of the City-God -  From the Hungarian d20 Society (aka Gabor Lux's group) comes this weird fantasy module for 3rd-4th level characters. 32 pages and $6

Trail of the Sea Demon - 3 loosely connected scenarios, this time actually bey Gabor Lux). 32 pages, $6

Rules

Nope

Misc

Friday Enhanced Map 10-9-20 - Looks a bit like a magical glyph. $2

Gregorius Notes on the Weird OSR Fantasy 2019 - Some guys blog, now in PDF form.  $2.50, 22 pages.

New OSR Products at DTRPG — October 8th, 2020

Normally October is my favorite month, because of Halloween, but instead we seem to be in the second month of Christmas season (the first being July)

Adventures & Settings

 None, alas

Rules

BaF - The Muse -  Alright! A new character class (been a while), this one for B/X. $1 and 8 pages.

D2 0 Go -  Says its inspired by older versions of D&D, but it's apparently meant for asynchronous play (Like online, I guess). 247 pages so probably not rules light and $9.50

Eat, Drink, Maybe Die: Fantasy Consumables for OSR Games  - I would dismiss this sort of thing, but it's from Unbalanced Die Games, a very credible and competent publisher. 103 pages and $3.50

SM3 Pumpkin Man for OSR -  These were actually pretty disturbing in the Ogre Battle series of video games. 8 pages and $1.75

The Bone Age - Not sure how OSR or serious this is, but it's a game of playing cavemen in a world being invaded by aliens. 90 pages, $10

Misc

Player Journal for OSRIC (and others) - Character sheets, graph paper, hexes, and more. $1 and 32 pages.

New OSR Products at DTRPG — October 1st, 2020

Well, one bit of good news in 2020, the XFL is coming back.

Also apparently, Jeremy Hart, one of my favorite old school style artists (aside from the same first name bias, he's got a nice creepy style) has an Indie Go Go for a monster product. Not too successful, I don't think IGG gets much traffic.

Adventures & Settings

Ashdown: Sol & Xoth Sectors for Starships & Spacemen 2e - Updated version of a 2018 product. $4, 54 pages

Belly of the Beast - From JG author Geof Dale comes this short adventure. 14 pages, $1.15

Hex 07.36 - Slow Waters -  A hex crawl in a swamp full of "froglings", including two race as classes for them and a dungeon. $3.95, 27 pages

RPPP Medieval-Authentic(tm) City Guide: Exeter - 26 pagse (not a very large city, I guess) and $2.99

SO19 Caverns of Calamity: Goblin's Rage - This is possibly a humorous module, as the PCs are apparently hired by a gnomish group called G.A.R.I. to retriever a strange mushroom. Low level. 30 pages, $6.50

What Remains of Richter Krankenhaus - This is a dungeon from post WW1 Germany, an asylum run by a crazy doctor. 60 pages, and $3.99, but the whole adventure is available in the full size preview (something I do)

Rules

Campaign Codex 1: Classic Foes (OSR Edition) - Tables for customizing your bandits, kobolds, hobgoblins, and etc. 14 pages, $4.45

Campaign Codex 2: Lesser Undead (OSR Edition) - Like above, only for zombies, wights, ghouls, skeletons, and ghasts. 14 pages, $4.45

DMP1: Mission Generator -  Random tables, I guess. 3 pages and PWYW

Kobolds as a OSR Player Character Race - A little pricey, but this seems fairly comprehensive. Not sure if it's for race and class games (which is overkill, Idi Snitman didn't need special rules) or race as class style games/ $1.50 and 5 pages.

Lizardfolk as a OSR Player Character Race -  As above, but for lizardmen, presumably. $1.50

Operation Solo Endeavor - Solo rules for Operation White Box, the WW2 OSR game.  $4.95 and 43 pages

Misc

Friday Enhanced Map 9-25-2020 - Somewhat lopsided dungeon map. $2

Friday, September 18, 2020

New OSR Products at DTRPG — Sept 17th, 2020

I haven't been using the computer I do this on, because as I think I mentioned, I no longer have internet and have to tether my phone (which doesn't work well, as this computer is in my bedroom where I get 1 bar) and the mousepad is covered in dust. Yikes.

Doesn't look like I've missed all that much.

Adventures & Sourcebooks

Hexed Places - Dima's Ascent -  Another hex crawl from PBE Games. This seems to be a very remote wilderness. 14 pages and $2.69

Hunters in Death - A new module from long time OSR guy Tim Shorts.  Seems like a sandbox adventure set in a forest. $5 and 32 pages, with original art.

The Spire in the Hills - This seems to be an OSR adaptation of an adventure for a system I am unfamiliar with, of which there3 are several others, seemingly in an Asian style setting. It seems to be more about a wizard's tower now abandoned. $1 and 33 pages..

Rules

Dark Horros & Hidden Places -  Looks like another attempt at an OSR Stranger Things style game, although this seems simpler than Dark Places & Demogorogns. 64 pages, $3.95

Mythic World of Oldskull - Oldskull Warriors -  I honestly am not sure if these products are meant to be a parody or not. But this seems to be versions of the Fighter, Ranger, Barbarian, and a take on EGG's Hunter (which was published in a magazine after he left TSR). 141 pages, $4.99

Misc

Friday Enhanced Map 9-11-20 - A 3 level dungeon on one page. $2

Friday, September 4, 2020

New OSR Products at DTRPG — September 3rd 2020

Missed the last couple weeks due to allergies (this time of the year is the worst) that really start to hit around midnight through morning

Adventures & Settings

BX3 Temple of Mercy -  Pacesetter module for 3rd level characters, involving the former lair of an evil cult. 24 pages, $3

Reaping at River's End - 5e adventure converted to S&W from Pacesetter. Something about a wizard leaving time letting the people of the village get sick.  For highish level characters, $6 (not just S&W stats, but S&W pricing!) and 26 pages

SM14 Of the Rakuli -  From Dunromin University press comes this supplement about a mysterious old vanished race.  For the Barnayia setting and 1e/OSRIC.  52 pages and PWYW ($2.95 suggested)

Rules

Filling in the Blanks - Random tables for Hex crawling, which are incredibly numerous, but this is from Third Kingdom Games who have a good track record. $9.95 and 65 pages

OSR Alternative Classes - Apparently the Third Kingdom guy has been busy, as he also produced this supplement of different classes for B/X. 48 pages, PWYW (suggested 50 cents)

Survive This: Fantasy - Core Rules -  Basically the rules to the OSR '80s Stranger Things style game, Dark Places & Demogorgons (which are a mishmash of OSR games, but mostly B/X) now for fantasy. 198 pages and $9.95 (also available in print)

Survive This! Fantasy GameMaster's Guide -  The GM counterpart to above, with magic items, monsters, and random tables. 216 pages, $9.95 (also available in print)

New OSR Products at DTRPG — August 13th, 2020

Is it me, or are people just now putting Artbreeder generated art on DTRPG as stock art? I think that's even lower than the "50 Drunken Penguins Found in a Cheese Shop" type products.

Seems a really light week, though.

Adventures & Settings

Sea Caves of Doom - Missed this from last week, I think. Ruined lair of cultists. 18 pages, $2.99

Misc

The Almanac of Fantasy Weather Volume 2: Europe - Want realistic weather (if your game happens to be in a specific part of Europe)? Probably not, but if you do, here you go. $19.99 and a ridiculous amount of pages.

Friday, August 7, 2020

New OSR Products at DTRPG — August 6th, 2020

Somewhat sparse week, but what there is is high quality.

Adventures & Settings

Bonepicker's Throne -  Another Rosethrone adventure, this for levels 2 to 4. 34 pages, $2.99

The Deadwoods -  Hex crawl in the ongoing series from Third Kingdom about a wood ruled by an undead Treant. 23 pages, $2.95

The Doom of Cthedrak -  Another hex crawl from Third Kingdom which apparently includes a crashed spaceship and two orc race as classes.  $3.95 and 27 pages

Rules

Forgotten Lore: An Untold Tales Book - This seems to be an Unearthed Arcana type book for OSRIC,. 60 pages, PWYW and the first product from "Crit Hit Games"

Misc

Friday Enhanced Map 7-31-20 -  This map could easily be a modern espionage style underground lair. $2

Friday, July 31, 2020

New OSR Products at DTRPG — July 30th, 2020

Blogger upgraded itself for some reason, so this may be stranger than normal

Adventures & Settings

Avanar's Blade
- For OD&D. Seems more like a quick encounter, as there isn't a map as near as I can tell. PWYW, 1 page.

The Hanging Tree - Another 1 page adventure for OD&D. PWYW

The King's Crow - Another 1 page adventure for OD&D. PWYW

The Roadside Shrine - Another 1 page adventure for OD&D. PWYW

The Sunken Tavern
- Another 1 page adventure for OD&D. PWYW,  Honestly, these things look like they could be a one paragraph encounter in a hex crawl.

Rules

BX Options: Class Builder - This is interesting. Rules to make your own classes for BX and have them be balanced. Also some other stuff like a d6 skill system.  Not sure why they included that, since that's White Box, with the d100% being introduced even before Greyhawk was published. I also don't get the appeal, a d6 is not granular enough.  $9.99 and 78 pages.

Odysseys & Overlords Advanced Tools - Some add on rules for characters for the BFRPG based games. 24 pages, $2.95

Misc

Friday Enhanced Map 7-24-2020 - Smallish dungeon. $2

Friday, July 24, 2020

New OSR Products at DTRPG — July 23rd, 2020

Last week was my birthday, so I skipped

Adventures & Settings

Adventure Anthology: Blood -  Aka James Raggi really needs money, so here's 5 early LotFP adventures in one PDF. $19.99 and 350 pages.

Big Puppet -  Looks like it's one of those adventures where real life people end up in a game world. For LotFP so presumably it's super nihilistic, pretentious, and edgelordy. $9.99 and 99 pages.

Fermentvm Nigrvm Dei Sepvlti - LotFP adventure so like above, only some medieval thingie. 104 pages, $9.99

Last Vestige of Hope - Gamma World (1e) adventure from ThrowiGames, originally designed for a con. 30 pages, $4

Moving Maze of the Mad Master - The 6th Maximum Mayhem Dungeon Module for 1e/OSRIC. 44 pages, $10 and if it's like the previous, is more a con style adventure than a real one.

Star Jumper Adventure Pack - Compilation of 3 adventures for Small Niches's White Star games. 66 pages and $4.99

The Basilisk Knights -  Part of the ongoing hexcrawl series from Third Kingdom Games. 27 pages, $3.95

Tich-Toch Teens Hexcrawl the Moon - This seems to be a joke product for OSE. 69 cents and 4 pages with the promise it might get fleshed out if it sells.

Rules

Deck of Weird Things -  LotFP supplement, so presumably half of them will immediately destroy the campaign world, while the other half will just kill the characters. $9.99 and 66 pages.

The Woodsman - Medieval Authentic (tm) class for Lion & Dragon. 99 cents, 6 pages.

Misc

Friday, July 10, 2020

New OSR Products at DTRPG — July 9th, 2020

Woof. The dog days of Summer are here.

Adventures & Settings

The Beatified & Damned -  One of those pretentious artistic modules. $3 and 4 pages

The Gateway to the Pallid Fields -  Part of the ongoing hex crawl series from Third Kingdom Games. 23 pages, $2.95. I have never heard anyone use the world "pallid" in real life.

The Lost City: Campaign Sourcebook - Companion of sorts to the classic module B4 The Lost City, which is really amazing, but at the same time, rather sketchy, almost more a framework of an adventure than anything else. Free

Rules

Circus Western -  I'm not sure if this is OSR or not. It's a translation of a spanish Wild West RPG. 68 pages, $4.95

Of Beats Brave and True -  Rules for playing critters in The Hero's Journey.  $4.99 and 49 pages.

Misc

Friday Enhanced Map 7-3-20 - Now this is cool looking. Like a amphitheater dungeon complex. $2

Friday, July 3, 2020

New OSR Products at DTRPG — July 2nd, 2020

For some reason, there is someone who rates every single PWYW/free product a 2 or 3.  Why does this person do this? It's one thing to review or even rate something, but just spam rate doesn't do anyone any good.

I complained to DTRPG about this, but they apparently don't care.

Adventures & Settings

Clan Gallien Region -  Part of the Rosethrone setting, a couple adventures of which I have, but cannot remember anything particularly specific to know what this region is. PWYW and 12 pages.

La Tomba dei Re Serpenti - Italian version of a LotFP adventure. 38 pages, free.

SG5 The Basilisk -  From Starry Knight, 6th to 8th level 42 pages, $7.50

Rules

CAL 1a - Conversion Guide to Meryath for Calidar, Labyrinth Lord Version -  Whew. This is a conversion guide for the three Calidar books set in Meryath. 26 pages, $2.95

CAL 1b - Conversion Guide to Merytath for Calidar, OSRIC Version - 26 pages, $2.95

New Knights of the All Mind - House rules for Advanced Labyrinth Lord from a old time 1e group that switched. 32 pages, free.

Misc

Calidar Series 2 PDFs Bundle - All the newer Calidar stuff in PDF. Does not include the above (which is older).  $17.55.  Print and PDF version $48.70

Friday, June 26, 2020

New OSR Products at DTRPG — June 25th, 2020

As if things weren't odd enough this year, we're about to get hit by a Saharan dust storm

Lots of adventures this week and seemingly nothing else.

Adventures & Settings

A Shadow Over the Greatwood -  Sandbox adventure from Rosethrone Games (always want to say Rosethorn) for 5th to 7th level S&W characters. 100 (!) pages, $3.99

Hexed Places - Green Caldera -  The burial ground of a dead mushroom god or something. $2.69 and 17 pages.

RPP Tamlane - Adventure from the Pundit for his Lion & Dragon game featuring the Wild Hunt and an Elven knight.  20 pages, $2.99

The Keep of the Troglodytes -  Another installment (the 8th, by my count) of the ongoing hexcrawl series from Third Kingdom Games. $2.95, 23 pages.

The Lounge Temple of Asavraki - Stoner comedy adventure. 6 pages. $1

The Mines of Yeblith-mau -  This is the first product from North Dragon Press and is a module for low level B/X (2 to 4). 24 pages, $4.99 and has a print version available as well (for $12)

The Throne of Skulls - Highish level OSRIC adventure from Joseph Mohr. PWYW

Valor in the Prison of Despair -  This is an adventure for the rather odd RPG Legend Quest that may or may not be statted for OSR games. Hard to tell. $4.99 and 76 pages.

Friday, June 19, 2020

New OSR Products at DTRPG — June 18th, 2020

Really quiet week for some reason. Even that guy that uploads 100s of generic heraldry designs didn't do anything.

edit: And for the next ten hours, you can get the Eye of Beholder trilogy free at GOG

Adventures & Settings

Lands of Ub: Frelengian Heartlands: Badgershire Map -  Names like that are why they invented zip codes.  From James Mishler, PWYW

Valley of the Cracked Helm -  Gozno dwarven adventure, apparently. Oddly, it's 2 pages (or so the listing says) but 58 megabytes. That must be one high res map. $1.50

Misc

Friday Enhanced Map 6-12-20 - Another classic looking dungeon map, $2

Friday, June 12, 2020

New OSR Products at DTRPG — June 11th, 2020

This has been the strangest year. And not in a good way, like the 70s or 80s.

Adventures & Settings

Dungeons Your Party Will Die For -  10 Mini adventures with conversion to OSR. 36 pages and $15. Strangely, the book is the same price as the PDF.

Isle of the Angry Apes - For S&W, 28 pages, $9.99

The Obsidian Keep - A low level 5e adventure converted to OSR about a ruined pirate fortress. Sounds kinda interesting despite its 5e origins. $3 and 35 pages.

Willow - Not about the Val Kilmer movie, but some sort of artsy mini-setting for S&W.  32 pages, $7

Rules

Trilemma Adventures Bestiary B/X -  These are B/X versions of monsters for a series of 1 page dungeons for 5e that released last year. I really hate 1 page dungeons (it's a cute idea, but puts too much work on the DM), but this might be useful, and if you don't hate 1 page dungeons, there's a bundle for both. This though is 150 pages and $8.95

Misc

Friday Enhanced Map 6-5-20 -  Perhaps the one constant in this world are Tim Hartin's dungeon maps. $2

Friday, June 5, 2020

New OSR products at DTRPG — June 4th, 2020

Yeah, missed the last couple weeks.  Already exhausting, work has been make much more difficult by having to wear a mask for the whole shift. And then the last week, having to barricade the store...

Don't seem to have missed too much, and that guy is still spamming the DTRPG store with generic heraldry images

Adventures & Settings

BX1 The screaming Temple -  Old Pacesetter (the newer one) module for Pacesetter's version of BX. 16 pages, $2

BX8 Ruins of the Red Moon - As above, adapting their old solo module to their BX rules. 48 pages, $2.50

City of Solstice: Evil Streets Home Invasion - Adventure for Charles Rice's City of Solstice, urban gritty fantasy setting for 1e (which is excellent by the way, need to finish my review of it). 15 pages, $2

S3 The Bandit's Bounty -  Creation's Edge mini adventure for 3rd to 5th level S&W characters about invading a bandit's fortress. $1.50, 15 pages

S4 Rangers of Arkwood - Creation's Edge mini adventure for 4th to 6th level S&W characters about missing rangers. 16 pages, $1.50

SG4 Tomb of the Dragon Lord -  2nd to 4th level adventure from Starry Knight, 42 pages and $7

The Deadwoods - Part of an ongoing hex crawl, $2.95, 23 pages.

Rules

BX RPG Player's Guide -  Didn't this come out a while ago? Or are there so many BX games I've lost my mind? But this is Pacesetter's take on BX which has advanced classes and things like the Necromancer as well.  $5 and 104 pages

BX RPG Dungeon Guide -  Companion to above. $5 and 112 pages.

Misc

Alarms & Journeys V1, No 5. - Why can't these things juts use normal numbering? Still, looks interesting and very old school with a Top Secret adventure (not sure if for the new one or old) and and interview with Merle Rasmussen, creator of said RPG, himself.  96 pages, $11.99

Friday Enhanced Map 5-29-20 - $2

Friday Enhanced Map 6-5-20 - This looks like it could be a cult dungeon. $2

5 Days Left in the Survive This! Fantasy Kickstarter

Although I don't think I ever got around to reviewing it, I am a fan of the Dark Places & Demogorgons game, basically a OSR based Strange Things inspired game of kids investigating weird stuff in the 1980s.  It's remarkably ugly in terms of presentation (DIY-ish), but it's well designed, taking things from basically all editions of D&D, not just the all too common house rules for S&W that we see.

Anyway, there's a fantasy version of the game on Kickstarter.

New OSR Products at DTRPG — May 18th, 2020

Another slow week, surprisingly.  Also of interest is what seems to be a new (or maybe just new to DTRPG) adventure for Mercenaries, Spies, and Private Eyes.

Tuesday, May 5, 2020

New OSR Products at DTRPG — May 4th, 2020

I've missed the last couple weeks because my internet died. I live in a rural area and Hughes Net is my only choice.  I dunno what happened exactly, happened after a storm, so I dunno if it was lightning (nothing else was affected) but it went kaput.

So I tried using my phone, but the computer I do this from doesn't have a wifi adapter, so I have to either use ethernet or a usb tether. But my phone's usb port was bad and wouldn't connect (and barely charge)

But I have a new phone now. Worked so well I was going to buy another one and use that for internet, but somehow my carrier (Visible) is sold out of all phones except the super expensive ones.

Adventures & Settings

Hex 14.43 - Eyrie of the Eaglefolk -  Hex crawl. 20 pages, $2.95

The Folio 18, 19, 20, 21, and 22 -  Someone must buy these, but not me. But more dual stat adventures that are very railroady. $4.19 each

Incursion from Outer Space -  It's a point crawl, which is something that completely baffles me.  $3, 24 pages.

The Tomb of Raven Darkmore - Dungeon of a deceased grandmaster assassin. PWYW (suggested $3) and 30 pages

Warhorse Adventures - All my paladins died before 4th level, but for those that didn't comes this set of adventures for paladins to find their special mount. 40 pages, $6.95

Rules

Barrow Keep Playtest - This seems to be something like Beyond the Wall and Other Adventures (sort of young adult fantasy), but requiring the Old School Essentials rulebooks and some other third party rules. $9 and unknown number of pages.

Expanded 20 Level Core Four Classes -  There was a proposed companion book for B/X that never happened, instead they started over with BECMI. But what if there was? 25 pages, $2

Gillmen -  New racial character class for B/X. Not clear if it's a deep one style thing or creature from the black lagoon type. $1 and 5 pages.

The Warlock - From the witch guy for OSE.  72 pages, $2.99

Misc

SCA The Best of Cavalier Attitude 2 - Is there really a point in a best of digital magazine? It made sense for Dragon because they wanted to reprint articles that people wanted. 60 pages, $7.50

New OSR Products at DTRPG — April 13th, 2020

Was too tired to do it last week. Doesn't help that someone uploaded 100s of heraldry images that anyone with a pulse could make. No lions or griffons or penguins rampant, just simple colors and shapes that would take someone like me (not terrible skilled) about 5 minutes to make.

Steve Jackson Games has uploaded a bunch of Car Wars stuff. My friends probably played more of that than AD&D, or at least we moved into it because we found cars very interesting.

Adventures & Sourcebooks

City of Solstice: Evil Streets -   From Charles Rice comes this urban fantasy setting for 1e. As near as I can tell from the preview product, the PCs are sort of vigilantes in a Thieves World (Sanctuary) grim city. 177 pages, $15

S2 Night Crystal Pass - Creation's Edge Games is back with his 36th (!) adventure, this one for levels 2-4. 21 pages, $1.50

The Misty Isles - New reprint of the classic Wee Warriors module. 48 pages, $4.95

The Reef Tavern - Location. 6 pages, PWYW (suggested 50 cents)

Village Backdrop: Macrimei 2.0 (OSR Edition) -  Raging Swam finally started making OSR versions of their Village backdrop series, this one, some sort of desert themed. 12 pages, $3.45

Rules

CAL2a Conversion Guide to Caldwen for Vintage Roleplaying - Conversion book for Bruce Heard's latest Calidar products for Labyrinth Lord. 28 pages, $2.95

CAL2b Conversion Guide to Caldwen for the OSRIC System - Above, but to OSRIC/1e. 28 pages, $2.95

Misc

Friday Enhanced Map 4-10-20 -  Part of a multi-part dungeon. $2

New OSR Products at DTRPG — March 30th, 2020

Adventures & Settings

Attack of the Robomen -  Short adventure for Space Adventures X, the white box space game. $1.50, 9 pages.

CA2 How to Train Your Wizard -  A new Calidar adventure from Bruce Heard about young magic-users. This seems to be system neutral, but a LL/OSRIC conversion guide is promised.  68 pages, $5.95

Satana Station  -  Setting book for the underrated OSR space RPG Machinations of the Space Princess game.  150 and $7.49

The Crypt of Fendoom Groom the Marvelous -  Third level adventure for White Box. Free, 5 pages.

The Mists of Myolnheym - Mini regional sourcebook for Odysseys & Overlords about a town of cloud giants. 9 pages, $1.25

Rules

Advanced Mutant Companion - Sourcebook for Mutant Future. $6.99 and 44 pages

Aephestus Shipyard Class Cruiser -  Seems to be deckplans and stuff for a starship for Stars Without Number, plus maybe rules for making ships? 20 pages, $1.50

Misc

Friday Enhanced Map 3-27-20 - Looks like a cliffside dungeon. $2

New OSR Products at DTRPG — March 23rd, 2020

Remembered to put a title, this time!

The biggest release of the week, and most definitely the year, is the massive dungeon The Halls of Arden Vul, published by Expeditious Retreat Press. Personally, I think they left money on the table by not doing a Kickstarter and also seems odd they didn't publish it as multiple books. But eh, that's just me.

Adventures & Settings

Castle of Septor -  This is the first adventure from Gamer's Group Publication and is a decent sized adventure for 4th to 12th level characters. Quite a range. $4.99 and 48 pages.

Burning of Novikov -  Sci-Fi adventure for Stars Without Number. 16 pages, $2.99

Dangerous Places Bundle -  Bundle of Spes Magna Games's 3 adventures. $2.50 and I dunno how many pages, but probably not too many.  I seem to have bought one of them and have no memory of it.

Fen Orc Almanac 2020 - This is six new adventures (or scenarios) including some pretty unusual ones. Seems suited for con games.  64 pages and PWYW (suggested $3)

Santa Muerte Guide -  Lost Boys inspired setting for Dark Places and Demagogues, the OSR Stranger Things style game. 120 pages, $9.99

SM04 Gazetteer of the Land of Young - From Dunromin University press comes this setting book for their game world. 91 pages, and PWYW (suggested $4.95)

The Halls of Arden Vul Complete - I can't do it justice. It's huge. More a gigadungeon than mega. 1120 pages and $109.  While that's pretty steep for a PDF, at the same time, their Advanced Adventures are close to a $1 a page in some cases

The Lonely Coast 2020 (OSR) -  From Raging Swan comes this collection of small villages.  90 pages, $11.95

The Towers of Lyska Lasforn - This is from Geoffrey Dale, the Inferno module guy, so while old school, uses his nigh on incomprehensible game stats. 95 pages, $3.80

Rules

Creature Feature Quarterly Vol 1 (OSE) -  16 new monsters statted and illustrated by Jeremy Hart for Old School Essentials and B/X, including paper miniatures and VTT tokens. 65 pages, $4.50

Old-School Essentials Classic Fantasy: Player's Rules Tome -  Somehow a B/X clone needs 8000 different books. This is another one of them. With rules for characters up to 14 and spells up to 6th level. 144 pages, $9.99

The Craft of the Wise: The Pagan Witch Tradition -  For B/X and OSE. 66 pages, $2.99

Misc

Friday Enhanced Map 3-20-20 - Looks like a sea coast dungeon. $2

Tuesday, March 17, 2020

Kinda a slow week. I wonder if the forced isolation will bring forth more products in the near future.

Adventures & Settings

Reading at River's End (S&W) -  Mid to high level adventure for S&W. 28 pages, $10 (Has the S&W tax despite not being from Frog God, but apparently the guy from Pacesetter Games & Simulations. Or his son, maybe)

Temple of Mercy (B/X) - 3rd level adventure for B/X (hope you guessed that last part). 24 pages, $5

The Isle of Dragons - Regional sourcebook for Odysseys & Overlords.  10 pages, $1.25

Thicc as Thieves - Comedy mini adventure. 2 pages, PWYW

Rules

Blueholme Explorer Encounters -  Not sure what to make of this to be honest, is it random tables? Lair like encounters? Just advice? Adventure seeds? Carmel and nougat?  38 pages, $2.99

Chaos Dice: 4 Supplements for 5e and AD&D -  I guess you can actually refer to things as AD&D, since I believe they let the trademark for that lapse ages ago. PWYW

Misc

Friday Enhanced Map 3-13-20 -  This is pretty neat. Looks like a seaside temple. $2

New OSR Products at DTRPG — March 9th, 2020

Woops, missed two weeks. First week I just completely forgot. For some reason I want to write a Lovecraftian OSR adventure, so, I've been working on a map of Arkham in my spare time. And despite being a crude and not that detailed a map, it's time consuming because I don't know what I'm doing. It is legible, though.

Then last week, I hurt my right shoulder. It gets progressively worse as the day goes by, to the point where by the end of the day, I can't even lift my arm halfway.

Adventures & Settings

Abandoned Glacial Rift of somone or other -  S&W adventure from Night Owl Workshop (hey, don't they have their own games to make adventures for?). $3 and 24 pages, including paper miniatures

Hexed Places - Pass of Horns -  My god, it's full of clowns. Or not. It's a hex crawl from PBE Games. 15 pages, $2.69

Keep of the Rawhide Gang - Now I have that theme song stuck in my head. But this is a hex crawl adventure/location for Old School Essentials.  47 pages, $3.95

Madrea - Another region for the Odysseys & Overlords setting.  13 pages, $1.95

SG2 Seer's Rescue -  Mid to high level adventure for OSRIC from Starry Knight. 32 pages, $6.50

Rules

Old School Essentials - Classic Fantasy Rogues Gallery 1

New OSR Products at DTRPG — February 17th, 2020

Well, this was a busy week, though most of it seems to have come from three people/companies and most of it unfortunately for S&W. It's really impressive though how it's supported by fans while its treated as an afterthought and cash in by its own company/creator.

Adventures & Settings

Estria -  Another region for the Odysseys & Overlords setting. 10 pages, $1.25

Feast of the Gobbler -  "S&W" adventure from FGG. 26 pages, $8

Four Views of Grizzly Eye Cave -  Site based S&W module, set within a small cavern. 14 pages, PWYW.

Four Visits to Wyvernseeker Rock - Not sure while anyone would seek a wyvern, much less a rock, but a S&W adventure. 12 pages, PWYW

Guimond's Tower and the Lair of the Druid-Lich - A bad druid mutates forest adventure for S&W. 5 pages, PWYW

Mystery at Ravenrock - "S&W" adventure from FGG. 24 pages, $8

Nations of the Orclands -  A region for the Odysseys & Overlords setting, involving orcs who wear really tight pants. Also includes a new races and class. 12 pages, $1.95

Old Cruik Hollow -  Short S&W adventure about a bandit's lair (maybe). 5 pages, PWYW

The Banshee's Tower - Short S&W adventure. 6 pages, PWYW

The Horror out of Hagsjaw - "S&W" adventure from FGG. 22 pages, $8

The Ruined Land of Shaymar -  Another region of the Odysseys & Overlords setting, one that has apparently been overrun by giant rats. $1.25, 10 pages

The Savage Caves - Despite the name, sounds like more like a ruined temple complex of a knightly order.  5 pages, PWYW

Rules

Aliens for RPG's -  For SWN and other OSR based space games. 12 pages, $2.86

The Hexer -  This is a witcher style class for S&W White Box. 10 pages, $2

The Shaman: an OSR Class -  Sadly, does not include a summons for a dancing, oiled up Jason Statham but it sorta like a druid. PWYW and a preview for the Silver Swords zine below.

Misc

Black Pudding #6 - Another issue of J.V. West's truly remarkable 'zine, which is one of the best things in the OSR. PWYW and 28 pages.

Friday Enhanced Map 2-14-20 - Another nice looking dungeon map from Tim Hartin. $2

Silver Swords Vol 1, No 2 - Generic sounding zine but with a Shaman class for OSR games. 40 pages, $3

Tuesday, February 11, 2020

New OSR Products at DTRPG — February 10th, 2020

Surprisingly busy week.

Adventures & Settings

Chandra's Haven -  Setting for Odysseys & Overlords. 10 pages, $1.25

For the Love of Valentine - Holiday cash in from Cash Grab Frog God Games for S&W. Well, either PF or 5e and converted badly to S&W.. $10, 30 pages.

Goblin BanditCamp/More Goblin Bandit Camp/ -  Like Kobold ambush, but a goblin bandit camp. And MORE goblin bandit camp. 9 pages, $2

Kobold Ambush -  Not even a module, just a setup of a Kobold ambush. 2 pages, PWYW

No Place Reich Home -  An adventure set in WW2 era England where it has been occupied by Germany and the players must rescue Excalibur.  42 pages, $2.99

Riders of the Black Sage -  A sandbox adventure set in an alternate history Arizona for an RPG I've never heard of, but apparently includes OSR stats. 36 pages, $2.99

Temple of the Sun -  Originally a 1e adventure written for a 2004 Con, it's been "updated" to OSRIC and gah, C&C.  $6.99 and 64 pages

The Chalice of Blood -  Adventure for Odysseys & Overlords, for 5th to 6th level characters.  From Megan Irving, probably the best author for that line.  $1.95, 12 pages

Rules

A Guide to Thieves' Guilds -  A system for running thieves guilds. 43 pages, $4.95. The author released a guide to domain building that was pretty decent, so this is maybe worth a look.

Obligatory Sample Rules -  Apparently the house rules of Zzarchov Kowolski, who does a lot of LotFP themed stuff. PWYW and 32 pages.

The Hero's Journey: Second Edition - The original was basically Tolkien-esque house rules for S&W White Box, this claims to have deeper changes. $14.95, 220 pages.

Tall Tales Alternate Character Sheet -  PWYW

Wisdom from the Wasteland Bundle - Every issue of the tiny rules supplement zine thing for Mutant Future/Gamma World. $27.99 and 300 pages.

Tuesday, February 4, 2020

New OSR Products at DTRPG — February 3rd, 2020

Somewhat notably, the very old games, The Lords of Midnight and Doomdark's Revenge are now free on Good Old Games. They are part RPG, part strategy and are actually the modern remakes, which are basically still the old games but with high res (but still low color) graphics

Adventures & Settings

Luxania: Kent's Crossing -  Town for the Odysseys & Overlords setting. 8 pages, $1.50

Mystery of the Mantle's Pockets -  A Russian OSR product, with English version as well.  Seems to be a gonzo-ish adventure set inside the pockets of a magic cloak. 18 pages, PWYW

SG1 Rite of the Hero - Low level adventure from Starry Knight who now seems to be dual statting them for 1e and 5e. $4.99 and 20 pages.

Ultraviolet Grasslands and the Black City -  Seems to be one of those artistic setting/adventure things for auteurs . $25 and 198 pages

Rules

Class Compendium Volume One - This is for the Low Fantasy RPG which is sorta OSR.  PWYW, 27 pages

Gothic Horror Monster as Class -  Vampire, Mummy, Werewolf, and "Renanimated", which I take to be Frankenstein's Monster, Adam.  12 pages, PWYW

Kaigaku Second Edition -  This is interesting, it seems to be an Asian fantasy (Japanese) themed game using the Stars Without Number rules (presumably minus the technology). $10 and no page listed, but it's hefty at over 100 megabytes.

Oldskull Game Expansions Book II - 1977 Bestiary -  Basically this seems to be the 1e Monster Manual re-written for Old School Essentials. $3.99 and 164 pages

Misc

Alarms & Journeys #3 - This seems to be less of a fanzine and more a proper magazine on various old school games, including a bit on Top Secret.  Priced more than one, though, at $10.99 and 82 pages.

Friday Enhanced Map 1-31-20 -  Looks like an underground temple or possibly a shopping mall. $2

Ragged Hollow Nightmare Review

Ragged Hollow Nightmare is a low level (1st to 4th level) starter adventure from Joseph Robert Lewis that comes in both an OSR and 5E version, separate downloads for the same purchase price of $5. Despite the separate PDF, it's pretty clear that it was originally written for 5e and converted to a generic OSR format. It's also written for his campaign setting, under the "Dungeon Age" brand that seems drawn from the real world more than the typical D&D fantasy world, including an allusion to Christina Rosetti's deservedly famous poem, Goblin Market.

The basic premise of the module is that an evil force has been accidentally unleashed inside the local Temple (the local clerics apparently not using the augury spell) which has caused a force field, or veil to surround the temple keeping the evil in. Unfortunately it also has trapped much of the townsfolk who were at a bingo game or something. The PCs want to get inside the temple to rescue the townsfolk, but they need to find a way to climb up and over the forcefield/veil (which is about 60 feet high).

New OSR Products at DTRPG — January 27th, 2020

It always feels like there's 8 or 9 weeks in January, but only one more left, mercifully.

I'm actually working on a new review, for the module Ragged Hollow Nightmare. Hopefully I'll get back to doing one weekly now that Buster (my kitten) is calming down a bit.

Adventures & Settings

Castle of the Mad Archmage Expansion - Level Four South -  For the megadungeon of the same name. Pretty pricey expansion at that, 18 pages and $4.95

Kingdom of Luxania - Setting detail for Odysseys & Overlords, $1.25 and 9 pages.

SM03 Cityguide to the City of Karan -  When you enter, the guards ask to see your party manager.  It actually might at that, given it's for the Barnaynia setting from the Guild of Dunromin. PWYW and 70 pages.

Rules

Oldskull Game Expansions Book 1 - Character Creation -  Optional rules and tables, probably with very large font, 1 column, and giant spacing. 128 pages, $2.99

Misc

Friday Enhanced Map 1-24-20 -  Looks like a nexus of a dungeon. $2

Old West Campaign Settind Design Book -  Not sure what's so OSR about this, but eh, it's PWYW and 5 pages.

Project Oasis Poster Maps - This is print/PDF for a setting from Joseph Bloch for that Ape game from the Labyrinth Lord guy/ $7.95 for both.  Oook.

Tuesday, January 21, 2020

New OSR Products at DTRPG — January 20th, 2020

January is a month that never seems like it wants to end. Almost 3 weeks in and there's almost 2 weeks left of it.  It would be nicer if it were shorter and February would longer. Wouldn't make that much of a difference, but it would feel like spring is closer.

Adventures & Settings

An Easy Task -  Short 3rd to 5th level module/encounter for B/X. PWYW and 7 pages, but apparently meant to be printed out in a weird format. Do people even own printers anymore?

At the High Point Inn - OSR edition of a beginner level adventure. 14 pages, 50 cents

In the Pass -  Follow up to At the High Point Inn, this is 17 or so pages and 50 cents.

Flying Fortress of the Celestial Order -  PWYW generic adventure. 28 pages

Secrets of Gianthome - Mini-setting for the Odysseys & Overlords game.  $1.25, 10 pages

The Dwarven Glory -  Reprint of the very old Wee Warriors module. $4.95 and 34 pages.

"New" Wizardry Game now on PC

Wizardry was pretty much the first D&D based computer game, using most the mechanics and even featuring cartoons by the DMG guy, McClean (sp?). They were party based dungeon crawlers though by the time Wizardry 6 came along, they were more like the Might & Magic games.

Wizardry games pretty much died out in the West, both officially (the Wizardry brand and Sir Tech) and unofficially but they were kept alive in Japan all through the years.

This game dates from the PS3 era, but was ported and update a bit for a Western release on PC, at both Steam and Good Old Games.  Definitely Japanese, with the art, but they are more like the dungeon crawlers of Wizardry 1 to 3, than the later ones (and the sort of weird 4 and 5).

In any case, it's a budget release, $15, with a 10% discount at either site.

Perhaps the highlight of the week, or last week (think I missed it), is Geoffrey McKinney's 78 level dungeon.

Mike's Dungeons -  The aforementioned 78 level dungeon, 158 pages, $3.90

New OSR Products at DTRPG — January 6th, 2020

2020, the first year that really feels like the future when I see it written down.

Alas, the future really has been a let down, technology wise. But on the less side, it's much less apocalyptic than expected. No killer bees, no gas shortage

Adventures

A Tomb to Plunder -  Short hack & slash adventures for B/X. 8 pages, PWYW (suggested $1)

Book of Lairs: Dungeons -  I always thought this sort of thing was more a 2e era thing, but eh, useful regardless. 48 pages, $3.29

Castle Rustlers - Adventure for the B/X (allegedly) Western Game Tale Talls. 6 pages, PWYW (suggest $1)

Captured and Sacrificed - 2 pages dungeon? $1

It's Gnoll Time - 10 page dungeon, $5. This and the 2 page/$1 dungeons are from Megan Irving, who did some of the more interesting modules for Odysseys & Overlords.

The Inn of False Hope - Mini adventure for S&W White Box. 15 pages, $1 until the end of January.

Tomb of the Cursed Princess - Another 2 page dungeon? $1

Rules

ACKS and Crafts -  Cutely named third party sourcebook for ACKS that focuses on the crafting side of things, including what sounds like an adaption of the Pathfinder alchemist.  50 pages, $4.99

Eldritch Omens -  House rules for S&W. $3 and 16 pages.

Just Quests -  Very rules light OSR games that claims to work with any OSR adventure. 5 pages, free.

Starships & Spacecraft 3 - Starships for Stars Without Number. $2.63, 10 pages.

The Folio: Black Label #3 on IndieGoGo

I don't keep up on Kickstarters/IndieGoGos as much as I used to, but here's one for 1E/OSRIC.  The Folio Series from Art of the Genre wasn't very good, to be honest, being very railroady, not unlike the Dragonlance modules, but less creative.

The Black Label is a bit better, less story driven and more site based, but is mostly notable for featuring nudity in its art and is a bit more sword & socery-ish
